PROJECT MANAGER | WELLINGTON

CRE8 Talent is working with our client, a well-established construction business based in Wellington, who is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join their team.

This is a role for someone who knows how to take ownership.
Someone who can walk onto a project, understand what needs to happen, get the right people around the table, keep things moving and, when something goes sideways, deal with it rather than pass the problem on.

You'll be responsible for overseeing projects from start to finish, from planning and tendering through to delivery, close-out and handover.
And while there's plenty of project management involved, this isn't a role where you sit behind a desk and watch the programme unfold.

You'll be involved. You'll lead. You'll make decisions.

What you'll be doing

You'll take responsibility for the successful delivery of your projects, working closely with the Construction Director, QS, site teams, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.

That includes:
  • Leading projects through planning, construction and close-out
  • Monitoring programme, productivity, quality and overall project performance
  • Working closely with the QS to keep projects on budget
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with the Construction Management and Environmental Management Plans
  • Taking a strong lead on Health & Safety, including leading subcontractor H&S meetings and the H&S component of site coordination meetings
  • Supporting tendering and providing input around programme, methodology and resourcing
  • Making sure the right people, equipment and resources are available when they're needed
  • Managing project teams and providing clear direction around daily activity and weekly planning
  • Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Managing variations, site purchases, rentals and timesheets within delegated authority
  • Driving project close-out, including O&M manuals, practical completion, CCCs and defects
  • Dealing with outstanding issues decisively so projects reach handover when they should

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a proven track record in construction project management.

You'll need to be reliable, accountable and comfortable taking responsibility for the outcome, not just your individual piece of it.

You'll have a broad understanding of construction and be confident enough across the different disciplines to understand what good looks like and step in when required.

Just as importantly, you'll be someone who:
  • Leads from the front and sets the standard for others
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with different stakeholders
  • Builds genuine working relationships
  • Is highly organised and manages time well
  • Can see problems coming and deal with them early
  • Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Has strong commercial awareness
  • Wants to improve the way projects are delivered, not simply repeat yesterday's way of doing things
Why this role?

Because this is an opportunity to have real influence over projects and the people delivering them.

You'll be part of the Wellington construction team and work closely with senior leadership, while having the responsibility and autonomy to get on with the job.

If you're the sort of Project Manager who likes being close to the action, takes pride in delivering a good project and isn't afraid to make the call when one needs to be made, we'd like to hear from you.
