Ngarongo Ormsby

Ngarongo Ormsby brings more than two decades of experience in mediation, dispute resolution and mental health, working alongside whānau, communities, businesses and organisations to navigate conflict through both kaupapa Māori and contemporary mediation practices.

A cognitive behavioural Kaupapa Māori mental health specialist, Ngarongo is recognised for his ability to bring together te ao Māori and Western approaches to conflict resolution. His work is grounded in tikanga Māori, with a strong focus on whakawhanaungatanga, restoring relationships and achieving outcomes that reflect the needs of individuals, whānau and the wider community.

Throughout his career, Ngarongo has worked across a diverse range of environments, including community settings, government agencies, education and remote Australian communities, where he further developed his mediation practice and understanding of culturally responsive dispute resolution. He has also shared his knowledge as a lecturer at Te Pūkenga (Otago Polytechnic), teaching kaupapa Māori approaches to conflict resolution and mediation.

Ngarongo is widely respected for his leadership within the dispute resolution profession. He made history as the first Māori elected to the board of the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ) in its 30-year history and currently serves as Chairperson of the Māori Allied Dispute Resolution Organisation (MĀADRO). His contribution to the profession has also seen him recognised as one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading family mediators.

At CRE8 Resolve, Ngarongo provides mediation, facilitation and cultural guidance across workplace, family, community and organisational matters. His approach creates space for respectful dialogue, recognising that lasting resolution comes from understanding, restoring relationships and working together to find a way forward.

Alongside his professional practice, Ngarongo is currently completing his PhD, continuing his commitment to advancing mediation, kaupapa Māori practice and dispute resolution in Aotearoa New Zealand.
